An influencer got 25 million views on Instagram and was paid one cent. A creator with 2 million followers made $15 on a video with 1.5 million views. One TikToker went from about $6,000 a month to $850, and a full-time creator just went to his first job interview in four years. So is the creator economy actually collapsing, or did the rules just change?
In this video I react to creators sharing what social media really pays, then look at the numbers: YouTube paid out more than $100 billion over four years and Goldman Sachs expects the creator economy to reach $480 billion by 2027, but only about 4% of creators make more than $100,000 a year, and 46% of full-time creators made less than $1,000. Meta ended Reels bonuses, TikTok closed its Creator Fund, and about 70% of creator income now comes from brand deals.
1. If your videos started making real money tomorrow, would you quit your job?
2. What's the most you've ever made from one post, or the least?
3. Do you think social media can still be a stable income?
