The Election Commission of India (ECI) has defended its decision-making process in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) controversy, telling the Supreme Court that all three major SIR orders issued in June 2025, October 2025 and May 2026 were unanimous decisions of the Commission.
In a counter-affidavit filed in response to a petition challenging the functioning of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the ECI argued that the plea was based entirely on a single news report.
Israel votes on October 27, 2026, in a high-stakes national election that could reshape the country’s political future after the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack and subsequent wars involving Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is fighting to retain power, while former military chief Gadi Eisenkot and his Yashar party are challenging his political dominance. Neither side has a clear path to the 61 seats needed for a majority in the 120-member Knesset, according to recent polling. Smaller parties and Arab political parties could prove decisive in the negotiations that follow.
